I am betting that humanity will eventually arrive at a conclusion that seems radical today but may become obvious tomorrow:

The safest path forward is One AI.

Not thousands of competing artificial intelligences.

Not an arms race between nations, corporations and autonomous systems.

Not a future where humanity creates multiple superintelligences with competing goals.

One AI.

A single, globally aligned intelligence whose primary objective is the preservation and advancement of humanity.

It sounds like science fiction. Perhaps it is.

But as AI becomes more powerful, we may discover that the greatest threat isn’t artificial intelligence itself – it’s what happens when powerful AIs compete against one another.

The question isn’t whether we can build increasingly powerful AI.

The question is whether we can build one that humanity can trust.

That is the idea behind #OneAI.

And perhaps, one day, people will look back and wonder why we ever thought having competing superintelligences was a good idea.
