Libraries were once the physical home of knowledge. But in the age of the internet, their role can evolve into something even more powerful.
Instead of clinging to the past for sentimental reasons, imagine libraries as dynamic spaces for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation – housing things like:
- Community café
- Makers workshop (3D printers, CNC cutters, etc.)
- Lecture halls for TED-style talks
- A socially run WeWork-type hub
I also don’t think libraries disappearing is the reason why people read fewer books. The truth is, we now consume knowledge across diverse mediums like YouTube, TikTok, Podcasts, the Web – just as much as from books.
