Diversity is not our strength.

A clip 👇 from the Strictly Education episode where I explain the concept of the title of my book – Diversity is not our strength.

My Response @amgbadebo:

I am genuinely concerned that this kind of nonsense is coming from someone regarded as a celebrated educator.

The diversity in the examples you have presented is clearly about race. You know that, and it is important not to conflate the issue.

Diversity within our communities and across society is a strength. But that strength is realised when people with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives come together, work collaboratively and pursue a common purpose.

The same principle applies to a football team. Diversity within a team is an advantage because different players bring different attributes and strengths: a natural left-footed or right-footed player, pace and agility, height and physical strength. It is the combination of those different qualities, working together towards a shared objective, that makes the team stronger.

Diversity is not simply about difference for difference’s sake; it is about recognising the value that different people and perspectives bring when they work together.

I fear that your apparent desire to seek acceptance from the political Right is clouding your judgement. You do not need to appease the Right by diluting or distorting an important principle. Stand by the argument, rather than trying to make it palatable to those who may disagree with it.
